University of Hawaii FROG Buildings

This project is part of a larger research program, funded by the Office of Naval Research, intended to evaluate the performance and integration of a range of energy technologies that includes energy efficiency, storage and renewable generation systems,” HNEI director Richard Rocheleau said in the news release.

The 1,400-square-foot Flexible Response to Ongoing Growth (FROG) classrooms at the College of Education were designed and installed by Project Frog, a California-based building technology company. The new structures include features such as high efficiency LED lighting, highly insulated walls and ceilings, high-performance glazing windows and more.

The UH classrooms are the last of five FROG classrooms installed in Hawaiʻi, but will be the start of the University of Hawaiʻi’s set goal towards becoming a net-zero institution by 2035.”
